ABSTRACT

The Global Automotive Aftermarket sector was valued at USD 392.5 billion in 2020 and is predicted to surpass USD 525 billion by 2028. The automotive aftermarket of the United Arab Emirates, led by Dubai, is the fastest-growing market, which is expected to reach USD 634.4 million. However, the Covid-19 pandemic diminished the growth rate and profitability of the sector, pressing small and medium enterprises to reduce their costs, including employees' remuneration. This empirical paper aims to analyse the impact of changes in salesforce remuneration on sales turnover and the role of Covid-19 in influencing this causal relationship. The data, before Covid (2019) and during Covid (2020-21), were collected from 80 automotive aftermarket enterprises in Dubai using a single-stage convenience sampling method. The correlation analysis and ANOVA test highlight the significant difference in sales commission within the group and between the groups caused by Covid-19. The results indicate how the reduction in remuneration, especially sales commission, during the crisis significantly declined the sales turnover in automotive aftermarket enterprises. The study proposes guidelines and tips that business leaders, the human resources professionals can implement to revive their sales turnover post-Covid-19 and manage such crises in future. © 2022, Czestochowa University of Technology. ABSTRACT

During Covid-19, Human Resources evolved as a pivotal organisational function, able to ensure continuity of the business by balancing demands of employees and business. Concurrently, it ensured operational vitality by navigating the crisis through implementing innovative human resources practices. Human Resources practitioners responded swiftly to the operational, administrative, and strategic challenges posed by the dynamics of external and internal changes. This qualitative and informative research explores the innovative practices implemented by human resources practitioners as a response to past health-pandemics and the Covid-19 crisis. A mix of inductive, deductive, and inductive-deductive thematic analysis was applied to present the findings from the literature review on Human Resources practices during health-pandemics before Covid-19 and during Covid-19 (published in 2020-2021). This study found Human Resources practitioners amongst the first responders to a health-related crisis. During a crisis, the HR role skews towards becoming a responsive change agent sustaining empathy and productivity whilst implementing new policies and practices, redefining the work, workforce, and the workplace in response to the changing external environment. The innovative HR practices implemented during the Covid-19 crisis will offer insights to the Management and HR practitioners, and will further guide the re-invention and championing of creative people management strategies for achieving human capital and organisational resilience. ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to analyse if significant pedagogical transitions occurred from Pre-Covid-19 to Covid-19 period concerning applied teaching methods, course content, assessment strategies, technical support and faculty's readiness. Design/methodology/approach: This is a quantitative study wherein perceptions of 116 faculty (from higher education institutions) from 22 countries were collected through an online survey. The authors classified the responses by five measurement characteristics and treatment, that is, Pre-Covid and during Covid. ANOVA test identified the differences between the ten groups. The authors also conducted ANOVA test for five Pre-Covid groups and five Covid groups and found meaningful differences among those groups. Findings: The authors compared the differences by the treatment, that is, Pre-Covid and Covid, and found the significant difference in teaching methods, assessment strategies and faculty's readiness while there was no significant difference found in course content and technological support. Practical implications: The findings and recommendations have a practical application for higher education leaders, curriculum managers and faculty working within this academic environment of online learning either completely remote or hybrid. Originality/value: The interpretive analysis suggests key improvement areas where education policymakers and higher education strategists need to pay attention to developing strategies and be proactive to cope with any future emergencies whilst maintaining high standards of teaching and learning. This includes devising strategies to prepare faculty competencies to teach in a virtual learning environment, to revamp the assessment strategies and teaching methods. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.
